WHAT IS VA COMMUNITY CARE?
Healthcare From Authorized Community Providers
The VA Community Care Network allows eligible Veterans to receive approved healthcare services from in-network community providers outside a VA facility. Eligibility and authorization are determined by VA.
Texas is part of VA Community Care Network Region 4, which is administered by TriWest Healthcare Alliance. Most nonemergency community care requires a VA referral and authorization before services are provided.

REGION 4
Texas Veterans receive VA Community Care Network support through Region 4, administered by TriWest Healthcare Alliance.
BEFORE SCHEDULING VA COMMUNITY CARE AT DETOXITY
You may be ready to schedule an authorized service when all the following information has been confirmed:
- You are enrolled in or eligible for VA healthcare.
- Your VA healthcare team has approved Community Care.
- You have received a VA referral and authorization for the requested service.
- Detoxity or the appropriate affiliated medical provider is identified as the authorized community provider.
- The requested service is included in your authorization.
- Your authorization is active and has remaining approved visits.
HOW THE VA COMMUNITY CARE REFERRAL PROCESS WORKS
Follow these steps to request a VA Community Care referral, confirm your authorization and schedule approved healthcare services with an in-network community provider.
1. SPEAK WITH YOUR VA HEALTHCARE TEAM
Contact your VA primary care provider, specialty provider or local Community Care office. Ask whether you are eligible to receive the requested healthcare service through the VA Community Care Network.
2. REQUEST A COMMUNITY PROVIDER
If VA approves Community Care, ask whether Detoxity or the appropriate affiliated medical provider may be selected as your authorized community provider. VA makes the final referral and provider-authorization decision.
3. WAIT FOR YOUR VA REFERRAL
Your VA healthcare team will review the request and determine whether Community Care is approved. Wait until the referral has been issued before arranging covered nonemergency care.
4. REVIEW YOUR VA AUTHORIZATION
Confirm that the authorization identifies the approved community provider, authorized service, effective dates and number of approved visits. Services outside the authorization may not be covered.
5. SUBMIT YOUR REFERRAL TO DETOXITY
Send your VA referral or authorization information to Detoxity securely. Our team will review the information and verify the approved service and scheduling requirements.
6. SCHEDULE YOUR AUTHORIZED CARE
After the referral information has been verified, our team will help you schedule the healthcare service authorized by VA.

Find answers about VA Community Care referrals, authorizations, approved services and scheduling healthcare with Detoxity in The Woodlands, Texas.
DOES DETOXITY ACCEPT VA COMMUNITY CARE REFERRALS?
Detoxity works with eligible Veterans when the appropriate Detoxity-affiliated provider and requested healthcare service are authorized through the VA Community Care Network. Our team verifies the referral information before scheduling covered care.
CAN I SCHEDULE VA COMMUNITY CARE WITHOUT A REFERRAL?
Most nonemergency VA Community Care services require approval and a referral from your VA healthcare team before you schedule with a community provider.
HOW DO I REQUEST A VA COMMUNITY CARE REFERRAL?
Contact your VA healthcare team and ask whether you are eligible for the requested service through the VA Community Care Network. If approved, ask whether Detoxity or the appropriate affiliated provider may be selected as your community provider.
CAN DETOXITY ISSUE MY INITIAL VA REFERRAL?
No. VA determines Community Care eligibility and approves initial referrals. Detoxity can review and verify referral information after VA has issued it.
DOES MY VA REFERRAL COVER EVERY SERVICE AT DETOXITY?
No. Your authorization applies only to the provider, service, dates and number of visits approved by VA. A referral for one service does not automatically authorize other Detoxity services.
WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD MY VA AUTHORIZATION INCLUDE?
Your authorization should identify the approved community provider, authorized service, effective dates, authorization number and approved visits or treatment period.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY VA AUTHORIZATION HAS EXPIRED?
Contact your VA healthcare team before receiving additional care. Services provided outside the approved authorization period may not be covered.
WILL I HAVE OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS?
Any Veteran cost responsibility depends on VA eligibility and the authorized care. Our team will verify the referral information and explain if a requested service is not included in the authorization before it is provided.
